It’s no secret that Nordic Combined World and Olympic Champion Johannes Rydzek loves his Oberstdorf home. Last week, he ensured that many other people are able to enjoy the pristine nature of the Allgäu by joining the “Allgäuer Alpen Clean Up Days”.

Together with 500 other volunteer trash collectors, Rydzek went out with his wife Lisse and a group of friends to collect plastic trash and other items at the Fellhorn mountain. This was already the second year that Rydzek participated in the action.

“During my mountain tours, I keep seeing how much trash is left on the ways and paths in the mountains. This is why I support #plasticfreepeaks and collected trash for a day. We were shocked to see how much we brought back in the end. It is so important that we start to be more sensitive with nature”, Rydzek wrote on his facebook page.

“Such an action day is important to bring the topic into focus for many people but you can bring trash back all-year-round”, he continued.

Rydzek was part of one of 209 groups, which collected over a ton of trash in the entire Allgäu region in the end. The action day is set to return next year.
