Nordic Combined athletes David Mach and Gyda Westvold Hansen were each honoured for their performances of the last year.

David Mach has been named elite student of the year at the ski boarding school in Oberstdorf. Mach had finished his A-levels with the best possible grade of 1.0 in 2019 and claimed a team silver at the FIS Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in Oberwiesenthal (GER). On top, he made his debut on the World Cup last winter.

“It is an outstanding performance to unite school and elite sport like this and you don’t see this very often”, said Florian Kuiper, CEO of the ski boarding school in Oberstdorf. Also Josef Maierhofer and Christian Böck of sponsor Sparkasse Allgäu were impressed and gifted Mach with a tablet in addition to the yearly contribution of 7.000 € which goes to the ski boarding school to foster young athletes.

Meanwhile in Norway, Gyda Westvold Hansen was awarded a talent stipend worth 25,000 NOK (approx. 2500 €) from SpareBank 1 Østlandet. The bank handed out a total of NOK 2.5 million in scholarships to 90 young talents from the regions Innlandet, Oslo and Akershus.

A total of 254 athletes applied for the sports scholarship. Of these, the jury has chosen 60 athletes who receive a total of NOK 1.5 million. The average age of the athletes is 20 years.
