Manuel Faißt impresses with 147.5 metres in Ruka PCR

A perfect start into the 2020/21 season for Germany’s Manuel Faißt. He won Thursday’s Provisional Competition Round in Ruka with a fantastic jump to 147.5 metres and 154.9 points.
World Cup winner Jarl Magnus Riiber was disqualified due to a suit infraction (as per the Ruka Tour rules, today’s round was only a PCR and no qualification and so all athletes start tomorrow) but would not have beaten Faißt, even if his jump had counted.
In great flying conditions, the round was full of long jumps and great performances, leaving the athletes with big smiles. Jens Lurås Oftebro claimed position two with 139 metres and 150.5 points and would start 18 seconds behind Faißt if the PCR has to be used on the weekend.
Young Austrian Johannes Lamparter had a great jump of 141.5 metres (148.3 p.) and Estonia’s Kristjan Ilves was fourth with just 0.1 points less after jumping to 141 metres. The duo would start at +0:26 and +0:27 behind Faißt.
Faißt’s fellow German Fabian Rießle was also strong with 133.5 metres and rank five and together with teammates Eric Frenzel on rank nine and Terence Weber on rank ten, the work of new German jumping coach Heinz Kuttin seems to have paid off.
Franz-Josef Rehrl was sixth with 136.5 metres and would start his race one minute and two seconds after Faißt. Akito Watabe and Harald Riiber shared rank seven with 137.8 points (+1:08).
Mario Seidl and Aaron Kostner were overjoyed to be part of the World Cup again after recuperating from knee injuries. They ended the PCR on ranks 12 and 32. 2019/10 World Cup runner-up did not have a good day on the Rukatunturi hill at all and landed at 110 metres already: a final rank 41.
