Nordic World Cup in Lillehammer postponed until later in the season
Nov 12, 2020·Nordic CombinedThe Norwegian Ski Association and FIS have decided to postpone the Cross-Country, Nordic Combined and Ski Jumping World Cups planned from December 4-6 to later in the season.
“Based on the difficult time we are currently in, the uncertainty and the consequences of the current status of Covid-19 prevention measures, the Norwegian Ski Association believes that it is not right to arrange the World Cup in Lillehammer right now. We will now focus on finding new dates in consultation with FIS and the local organiser”, says Norwegian Ski Association President Erik Røste.
The organiser, local and national authorities, FIS and the Norwegian Ski Association have worked towards conducting the competitions in Lillehammer in a responsible manner for a long time.
“Detailed plans for infection control have been prepared with good guidance from the health authorities, and considerable work has been done by the organiser to ensure a safe implementation”, says Secretary General Ingvild Bretten Berg. “Still, with today's uncertainty and the significant resources needed, both financially and humanly, we believe it is the right decision to postpone”, Røste continues.
The Norwegian Ski Association, the authorities, the Lillehammer organiser and municipality and FIS, will now work as quickly as possible find good solutions for the implementation of the event later in the season.
FIS will inform about possible replacement dates as soon as possible.
