The Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV)’s annual camp for young athletes has taken place in Hochfilzen and Saalfelden. For the 14th time, female and male athletes from the different regions met to discover the allure of Nordic Combined and learn important basics. This year, 50 boys and 10 girls from 5 different Austrian states took part in the camp.

As in the past, the jumping sessions were held in Saalfelden, while the army base in Hochfilzen hosted the young athletes and offered ample space for roller ski training. Three days of training offered new experiences and also a meeting with FIS World Champion and Austrian team veteran Berni Gruber, who visited the camp and passed on his experience to the young athletes.

Günther Chromecek, the responsible ÖSV coach drew a positive conclusion after the camp: “The children were fully motivated and despite the difficult circumstances during the Corona pandemic, we were able to hold a cool camp in Saalfelden and Hochfilzen. We had strict guidelines, including distance rules and obligatory masks but the atmosphere was great. I was very happy to welcome Berni Gruber as our star guest, who really advised the children and answered all questions. This has become a nice tradition, as Franz-Josef Rehrl was here last year. It is really motivating the kids if they can train together with the champions.”
