Alexander Pashaev retires, Dmitry Gelvig sustains serious injury

Russian Nordic Combined skier Alexander Pashaev has announced his career end. The 22-year-old athlete didn't see any prospects for his development anymore and decided to retire from the elite sport.

"I think the athlete's profession is over. For the past two months, I have took courses and now I work as a barber.  Not everything works out yet, but I will try", Pashaev tells of his future career. Before the first training camp of this season, former teammate Vitaly Ivanov used the services of his friend and was satisfied.

Pashaev started in 16 World Cup and 3 World Championships events. Fans remember him thanks to his good jumps.

Another Nordic Combined skier, the member of the Russian national team, Dmitry Gelvig, was seriously injured ten days ago. The athlete crashed on the hill during one of the ski jumping sessions.  The examination showed a fracture of the femoral neck, it means that Gelvig will have to sit one year out to fully recover.
