Japan’s Ryota Yamamoto has returned to old jumping strength and won the Provisional Competition Round in Klingenthal. The 23-year-old jumped 139.5 metres and topped the result list with a point total of exatly 140.

0.9 points behind the Japanese, Lukas Greiderer (AUT) came in second with a jump of also 139.5 metres. If the PCR has to be used in case of adverse weather conditions, the two athletes would start four seconds apart. France’s Laurent Mühlethaler continued with his impressive jumping performances on rank three (138 m; 137.6 p.) and would start ten seconds after the leader Yamamoto.

Behind the best three jumpers, a small gap opened to the first pursuers: Johannes Lamparter was fourth with a time behind of 34 seconds, Julian Schmid followed one second later after they jumped to 134.5 and 135 metres respectively. With 134 metres and 129.1 points, Kristjan Ilves was sixth with +0:44 and Terence Weber ranked seventh and would start his race 48 seconds after Ryota Yamamoto.

Out of the best skiers, Ilkka Herola had the best position with intermediate rank eight and a start delay of 52 seconds but he was followed closely by Johannes Rydzek on position ten (+0:54) and also Fabian Rießle and Eric Frenzel would still be in the game if the PCR has to be used with start delays of one minute and four and one minute and 16 seconds respectively.

Akito Watabe had a weaker jump and only ranked 13th with 131 metres. He would start his race one minute and six seconds after his younger teammate and would have all strong skiers to contend with directly around him. World Cup runner-up Vinzenz Geiger also did not have the best jump in the PCR and ranked 18th with one minute and 31 seconds to make up in the end.

As only 49 athletes were on start, every athlete qualified for the competition tomorrow. If the PCR has to be used Harald Riiber will not be on start as he was disqualified due to a non rule conforming jumping suit today.
