The 2019 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships were a hugely successful. With two weeks of amazing weather, big crowds and astonishing performances, everybody likes to think back about Seefeld 2019. In order to get into the mood for the upcoming 2021 edition of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf, we have curated the best moments of 2019 for you below.

Ind. Gundersen Large Hill: Never count out a legend.

The first event of the championships was a true shocker: not the highly-favourited Jarl Magnus Riiber took home his first World Championship title on the large hill in Innsbruck and the cross-country tracks in Seefeld. German legend Eric Frenzel, whose shape was not on the top level for much of the rest of the season, had a perfect day and proved that a.) the King of Seefeld can always win in Seefeld and b.) never count out a Nordic Combined legend.

Team Sprint: German Engineering

Eric Frenzel's love affair with Bergisel in Innsbuck continued in the Team Sprint and proved infectuous, so that also teammate Fabian Rießle hit a top jump off the large hill to land Germany as the top favourites for a gold medal. In a tense race that also saw Norway and Austria battling for the medals, Frenzel and Rießle engineered their performace to perfection and Rießle brought the second gold for Germany home to the delight of a frenzied crowd.

Ind. Gundersen Normal Hill: Can't keep good man down

Title favourite Jarl Magnus Riiber wouldn't be denied in the second Individual Gundersen competition. He jumped to the lead from the norma hill in Seefeld and even though he did not manage to escape all pursuers on the track, he proved his growing tactical skills and his development into a threat also on the track by keeping control of his opponents Akito Watabe and Bernhard Gruber. He earned his first-ever World Champion title in a well-timed and controlled finish line sprint.

Team Event: A nailbiter until the end

The Seefeld 2019 edition was Team Event perfection. Three nations fighting for three medals all the way, pushed by the largest crowd of the championships. The Austrian team delighted their home crowd with astonishing jumping performances and captured the pole position. Team Norway closed the gap first but was also caught by the fast approaching Germans and in the end, again a well-timed finish sprint by Jarl Magnus Riiber decided the event in favour of the Nordmenn.
