VSC Klingenthal Managing Director Alexander Ziron was presented with the “Silver Badge of Honour from the German Ski Association (DSV)“ at a club board meeting last week in recognition for his many years dedicated to winter sports.

The former Nordic Combined athlete has been actively involved in shaping winter sports in Klingenthal and Mühlleithen for over 30 years. He was one of the initiators of the merger of the three Klingenthal winter sports clubs to form the VSC, has been club’s managing director for over 20 years, and also holds the threads of the Vogtland Arena Vermarktungsgesellschaft mbH and Waldhotel Vogtland.

Vice President Andreas Kunoth held the laudation and also referred to the organization of hundreds of competitive and popular sports events up to the World Cup The 48-year-old was and is the initiator and driving force of many investments to maintain and improve the skiing infrastructure in and around Klingenthal. This includes the ski stadium, cross-country ski runs at the Sparkasse Vogtland Arena, the junior ski jumps currently under construction in Mühlleithen and much more. "He was and is always a reliable partner," Kunoth emphasized.

Heiko Krause, DSV Vice President and Head of the Saxon Ski Association, was connected via video and said: "Thank you for everything you have given for skiing in Saxony, Germany and even all over the world.”

A visibly surprised and touched Alexander Ziron clearly had trouble going "to the agenda" after receiving the award. The focus was on the upcoming, extraordinary winter sports season.

Since positive experiences could be gained with the developed hygiene concept at the FIS Alpine World Cup in Sölden in October, the VSC is planning to organise a total of seven competitions in winter. “Above all, we want to give young athletes the opportunity to demonstrate their training performance in competition. The current corona hygiene regulations apply, so that changes in the individual events can also be made at short notice,” says  Ziron.

The Viessmann FIS World Cup Nordic Combined will be the highlight. “The basis is our confirmed hygiene concept for the Sparkasse Vogtland Arena with a maximum of 2,500 spectators. We hope this will be possible. We will inform winter sports fans about the details in good time,” explains VSC President Manfred Deckert.
