Women’s World Cup premiere rescheduled in Ramsau am Dachstein
Nov 30, 2020·Nordic CombinedThe historic premiere of the Women’s Nordic Combined World Cup will happen in Ramsau am Dachstein! The Local Organising Committee and the Austrian Ski Federation agreed to host one of the cancelled events originally planned for Otepää (EST) in January 2021.
Now, the first-ever Women’s World Cup will take place on Friday, 18th of December, in conjunction with the Men’s World Cup events and also one additional event in Women’s Ski Jumping.
“We would like to express a huge thanks to the Austrian Ski Federation and the organisers in Ramsau for their fantastic support in picking up this event, especially in the trying times we are currently in. For our women, this is a world premiere and will therefore be an event to enter the history books. We can’t wait for this to finally happen and already look forward to the event immensely”, said FIS Nordic Combined Race Director Lasse Ottesen.
“The timing is also quite perfect. To get one Women’s World Cup event in before Christmas and New Year allows us some space for the planned women’s Continental Cup events in January. We are also working very hard to find a solution to reschedule the postponed events from Lillehammer to have a second women’s World Cup weekend before we go into their World Championship debut”, Ottesen continues.
Ramsau am Dachstein is a very traditional place for Nordic Combined with World Cup events taking place since 1998. To now host the women’s World Cup premiere means a lot to the organisers, the county of Styria and the Austrian Ski Federation.
“In the interest of the sport, the Austrian Ski Federation decided to host two additional women’s events, one women’s Nordic Combined and one women’s Ski Jumping competition each. We are aware of our responsibility towards our athletes and want to do our part in this difficult World Cup season. This decision is also an important signal to our young athletes. I would like to thank the country Styria, the region Ramsau, the WSV Ramsau, our host broadcaster ORF and all other ÖSV partners for their support. Without them, taking over two additional events at such short notice would not be possible”, said ÖSV President Peter Schröcksnadel.
County sports councillor Christopher Drexler added: “With this decision, the sports county Styria will host four World Cup competitions within a few days. I am very pleased we managed to host these additional women’s events in Ramsau. This is an important sign and will give motivation to our young athletes. I would like to express my thanks for the big efforts put into having Styria return as the host of international sports events on the highest level, especially in the short time we had and with the additional challenges by the Covid-19 pandemic.”
The exact programme will follow.
