COC: Norway wins women’s Team Sprint premiere

Norway took the victory of the Women’s Team Sprint premier at the Continental Cup in Lillehammer (NOR) yesterday.

Overall World Cup leader Gyda Westvold Hansen (93.5 m) and Marte Leinan Lund (81.5 m) were already in the lead after the Ski Jumping round, with Hansen reaching the furthest distance of the day.

With a total of 238.3 points Norway 1 took the lead and went into the race 20 seconds ahead of Austria 1 on rank two. 
Annalena Slamik (86 m) and Lisa Hirner (85 m) collected 228.2 points, placing ahead of Norway 2 with Marie Mille Hagen (77 m) and Mari Leinan Lund (80.5 m), who reached 199 points. The went into the 2x4.5 km race 1:19 min after her Norwegian team mates in the front.

While Leinan Lund and Hansen could increase there lead during the race to 2:08.1 min in the end, crossing the finish line first and winning the first ever women’s COC team sprint event, also Austria could defend their position. 
Slamik and Hirner took the second place ahead of Marie Nähring and Maria Gerboth (+03:41.7 min) from Germany.

Team Norway 2, who placed third after the Ski Jumping round, did not start in the race.

Meanwhile, the winners of the men’s team sprint came from Austria 1. 
Lukas Klapfer (94 m) and Philipp Orter (95 m) already took the win of the Ski Jumping round, with 266.6 pts followed closely by Austria 2 (266 pts), Thomas Jöbstl (84.5 m) and Thomas Rettenegger (94 m), only 1 second behind.

Also the third rank was taken by Austria, with Manuel Einkemmer (92 m) and Marc Luis Rainer (89.5 m) who collected a total of 265.7 points and a backlog of only 2 seconds.

Orter and Klapfer showed a strong performance in the 2x7.5 km race and defended their lead, reaching the finish line 11.5 seconds ahead of Einkemmer and Rainer from Austria 3. 
Norway 2 completed the podium with yesterday’s Individual winner Aleksander Skoglund and Kasper Moen Flatla (+27.7 sec).
