The competition was held using the Gundersen method (one round of jumps and a 4x5 km relay race) on the Średnia Krokiew and the running routes of the Central Sports Center in Zakopane.

After the ski jumping competition, Norwegians were in the lead (468.6 points), ahead of French (447.6 points) and Americans (433.6 points).

Right behind them were Slovenes (433.2 points), then Austrians (421.2 points), and only in the 6th place Finns (412.6 points), who started 1:15 min behind Norwegians. The great run of Karhumaa took his team to second place and only  Finns and  Norwegians counted in the fight for the gold medal until the end. After every 5 kilometers the leader changed, and in the end, it was Finns who reached the finish line first, 6.5 seconds ahead of Norwegians. Behind their backs, there was a fierce battle for the bronze medal between the teams of France and Austria. After the three athletes had finished the race, the French were still in the lead, but Stefan Rettenegger's great run (12: 54.8 minutes) took his team to third place. For the Austrian, it is the third medal in the Zakopane championship, after gold in the individual competition and bronze in the competition of mixed teams.

Waltteri Karhumaa: “This medal is very important for me as a person and also as a team. We did a really good job today at the hill and on the cross–country track. This means a lot for me and for my team. My personal performance today was also quite good. I did a solid jump and especially on the track, I was pretty fast. The whole Championships was ok for me. I struggled a bit on the hill, but I think overall we did a great job”.

Sebastian Oestvold: “The medal is amazing. The whole team did a good job at the hill and also in the cross-country skiing, so we are happy about the competition today”.

Stefan Retteneger: “It was really nice today. It was a hard fight for our team, but we achieved to get another medal. It’s the third medal for me, so the Championships are really good for me. Today it was hard, especially on the track, but everybody manage to do a good race. I’m very happy with this medal”.
