Lange secures overall COC victory in Lake Placid

On 25./26. March two Individual Gundersen competitions were on the program for the Nordic Combined men.
On day one on the newly renovated MacKenzie Intervale HS100, Tate Frantz took the victory of the Ski Jumping round on home soil. The American jumped to 89 meters and collected 121.7 points, being the first one on the cross-country track in the afternoon.
Rank 2 went to Wendelin Thannheimer (92.5 m, 121 pts) from Germany, who went into the 10 km race only 3 seconds behind Frantz.
American Jasper Good (92.5 m, 117.4 pts) took the third place, which gave him a 17 second backlog on his team mate in the lead.
The furthest jump of the day was performed by German Nick Siegemund with 96.5 meters, who lost valuable points during the landing and took the 8th place (113.6 pts, +32 sec) after the jumping round.
During the race, Jakob Lange of Germany, who was 25 seconds behind after the Ski Jumping round, showed a brilliant comeback and crossed the finish line first, with the fastest skiing time of 24:08.4 min for the 10 km course.
Thannheimer defended his second rank, reaching the finish line 5 sec after his German team mate. Stephen Schumann from the US placed third, 8.8 sec behind Lange.
The final of the FIS Nordic Combined Continental Cup 2021/22 took place on Saturday and included two jumps and a 15 km race.
15 athletes from 5 nations started at the last competition of the season, while Jakob Lange was already the overall COC winner thanks to his large lead.
The German was already in the lead after the ski jumping round with jumps of 98 m and 95.5 m (254.8 pts).
As on Friday, Wendelin Thannheimer secured second place (253.9 pts) and also set a new hill record in the second round with 100 m. He went into the 15 km race just 4 seconds behind Lange.
Third place also went to Germany with Nick Siegemund (97.5m/94.5m, 247.6 pts), who took a 29-second deficit into the cross-country course.
In the end, strong skier Lange was not only able to defend his lead to the finish, but even extend it. Thannheimer also held his position and crossed the finish line in second place, 1:00.5 behind his teammate.
David Mach (+1:14.5 min) completed the German podium sweep in third place.
Jakob Lange also secured the overall Continental Cup victory 2021/22 with 1406 points, ahead of David Mach (1044 pts) and Wendelin Thannheimer (776 pts).
With 4503 points, Germany also won the Nations Cup ranking.
