Riiber unbeatable in Otepää
Dec 12, 2021·Nordic CombinedHe did it again! With a jump to 99 meters Jarl Magnus Riiber was already the winner of the Ski Jumping round of the Individual Gundersen on the Tehvandi HS 97 today.
In Otepääs Ski Jumping stadium the Norwegian took the lead with the furthest jump of the day and collected 150.3 points. Therefore he started into the race 44 seconds ahead of Mario Seidl on rank two.
The Austrian, who’s the current owner of the blue bib as Best Jumper, reached 96 meters und 139.4 points.
Rank three went to local Estonian hero Kristjan Ilves who excited the crowd at the stadium with a strong jump to 97 meters (135.8 pts) and had a 58 second backlog on Riiber during the cross-country race.
Due to a tight schedule, there was only a short break between the Ski Jumping and Cross-Country events in Otepää today.
In the end Riiber was one more time able to keep the first position, at times building up his lead to 58 seconds. Meanwhile, Seidl couldn’t keep up with the high pace of his persuers and was caught by Vinzenz Geiger from Germany, Kristjan Ilves and Japanese Yoshito Watabe after the second lap.
The group grew to twelve athletes after 5 km, who all competed only 2 sec apart.
While the winner was already clear early in the race, the fight for the second and third rank could be expected to be very tight.
All athletes went together in the finish sprint, resulting in a crash from Martin Fritz from Austria and German Vinzenz Geiger who fell back to positions 12 and 13.
The fight for the podium was won by Team Germany with Fabian Rießle (+33.5 sec) beating his team mate Julian Schmid (+33.7 sec) by only 0.2 seconds.
With his 41st victory, Jarl Magnus Riiber keeps the yellow bib as overall World Cup leader.
