Seidl and Hirner new Austrian champions
Oct 18, 2021·Nordic CombinedIn bright sunshine and best conditions, the Austrian championships in Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined took place on Saturday in Stams and Seefeld/Tyrol. The jumping competitions were held at the Normal Hill Brunnentalschanze in Stams, and were completed by a 5km race (women) and a 10km race (men) for the Nordic Combiners on the roller ski course in Seefeld.
Lisa Hirner became the new Nordic Combined national champion of the women. It is already the second championship title for the Styrian after Tschagguns 2019.
“It is a great feeling to be calling myself national champion for the second time. Mainly because my health was slightly ailing for the past few days and for a long time I didn't know whether I could even compete. Of course, it wasn't that exciting because not everyone was at the start, but I hope that my teammates will be back again soon, so that we can train and start the winter together”, said Hirner.
In the absence of Annalena Slamik, Claudia Purker (both cruciate ligament injury) and Sigrun Kleinrath (health issues), Styrian Eva Hubinger came in second ahead of Tyrolean Marit Weichselbraun on rank three.
The Men’s national champion of the normal hill is called Mario Seidl. For the eighth time the Salzburg man crowned himself national champion in the general class.
“The collection of medals for my ÖM titles is growing, and of course I'm very happy to take that with me. Almost everyone took part, so it is a good way of determining where you are with your teammates. Last year I wasn't there due to an injury, so I'm even more delighted to be in such a good shape”, said Seidl. "Winter can come now."
In second and third place were Johannes Lamparter and Martin Fritz. Franz-Josef Rehrl (cruciate ligament injury) and Lukas Greiderer (cracked rib) did not start.
