The German Nordic Combined Championships took place in Hinterzarten last weekend.

In heavy rain and changing wind conditions, the athletes completed their competition jump on the new Rothausschanze HS 111.

Nathalie Armbruster (103.5 m) took the lead in the women's individual event and started the 5 km rollerski race 36 seconds ahead of Anne Häckel (107.5 m) and Jenny Nowak (99 m, 1:10 min).

The 16-year-old managed a start-finish victory, with which she also won the junior classification and became double champion.

Second place went to Jenny Nowak (+1:09 min) ahead of Anne Häckel (+1:51 min).

In the men's competition, Vinzenz Geiger from Oberstdorf secured the Ski Jumping victory with the best jump of the day on 113.5 meters, thereby also setting a new hill record. Due to a previous Covid19-infection, the Olympic champion from Beijing did not participate in the subsequent roller ski race.

Second place went to local hero Fabian Riessle (110 m, +11 sec), who started the running competition first due to Geiger's absence.

Third place after jumping went to Jakob Lange from Kiefersfelden with 107.5 meters and 17 seconds behind.

Riessle was also able to defend his lead to the finish and took the German championship title ahead of Jakob Lange (+22.4 sec) and Julian Schmid from Oberstdorf (22.7 sec), who prevailed against Manuel Faisst (+23.4 sec) in an exciting finish.

Meanwhile, Eric Frenzel entered the home stretch one lap too early and was therefore disqualified.

On Sunday, the German championship title in the men's Team Sprint was awarded, while a test competition for the women was held.

Anne Häckel showed the longest jump of the women with 103 meters and secured the lead for herself and teammate Jenny Nowak (94 m).

The Saxons started the roller ski race over 7.5 km 26 seconds ahead, but lost the lead on the penultimate lap to Cindy Haasch from team Thuringia.

In a spectacular finish sprint, Haasch prevailed against Nowak with 0.2 seconds and brought the victory for herself and team mate Maria Gerboth.

Nowak and Häckel took second place, ahead of Magdalena Burger and Sophia Maurus (+1:15 min) from Bavaria. No German championship titles were awarded during the test competition.

The men's German championship title went to Julian Schmid and Jakob Lange from team Bavaria I.

The duo was already 27 seconds ahead after the Ski Jumping round and took the lead to the finish with ease. Meanwhile, there was a close battle for the two remaining podium spots.

In the end, Fabian Riessle (+9.3 sec) came out on top against Johannes Rydzek (+9.8 sec) on the home straight and took the runner-up title for himself and his teammate Manuel Faisst (Baden-Wuerttemberg), ahead of Bavaria II with starting runner Wendelin Thannheimer.
