On October 9th, the Estonian championships took place in Tehvandi Sports Center in Otepää.

Two competitions were scheduled, in which the athletes fought for the national title in the men’s and junior category. While top favorite Kristjan Ilves wasn’t on start, also no female competitors took part.

Despite this, 13 athletes participated in the races, including former World Cup Ski Jumper Martti Nomme as well as representatives from Latvia.

In the men’s competition, Kail Piho from SÜ Taevastäht secured the national championship title 2022 with a strong performance at the running course. The 31-year-old finished in 6th place on the jumping hill, but managed to take the lead during the 6 km cross-country run. Piho finished the race in a time of 25:52 min ahead of Markus Kägu (26:45 min) on rank two, who started the run from a strong 3rd place after jumping. The third place was taken by Martti Nomme with 26:59 min, who had started the cross-country run first after a strong performance on the ski jumping hill, but couldn’t defend his lead.

In the Junior category, Karel Rammo from Nomme Ski Club took the national title with a time of 27:32 min. Otepää Põhjakotkas athlete Richard Viks (30:30 min) ranked second ahead of clubmate Hanno Henri Reidolf, who finished third with a powerful sprint and a total time of 42:08 min.
