Lamparter wins German Trophy 2023
Feb 17, 2023·Nordic CombinedJohannes Lamparter is the winner of the "German Trophy" 2023, which took place for the first time in January and February 2023.
With the "German Trophy", the Viessmann FIS Nordic Combined World Cup received a new special rating this winter for the German World Cup stations in Klingenthal, Oberstdorf and Schonach. The title sponsor of the three series was the digital travel platform trivago.
The Trophy started on January 22nd in Klingenthal, where a Mass Start and an Individual Gundersen were held. Johannes Lamparter was able to win both competitions and directly extend his lead in the German Trophy.
After the first two competitions, he was 35 seconds ahead of Jarl Magnus Riiber from Norway and his teammate Franz-Josef Rehrl (+41 sec).
The next station was Oberstdorf on February 4th and 5th.
There, Lamparter was back on top of the podium in the first Individual event and further extended his lead in the Trophy ranking. On day two, the victory went to Germany's Julian Schmid while Lamparter finished fourth, dropping seconds in the standings for the first time.
Nevertheless, he was still in the lead after the second station, with 1:03 min ahead of Rehrl and +2.27 min ahead of Schmid, since Jarl Magnus Riiber was not on start for health reasons and thus fell out of the German Trophy ranking.
In the final competitions in Schonach, on 11th and 12th February, Oftebro won on day one, ahead of Lamparter and Kristjan Ilves, who slipped up to third place in the German Trophy standings due to Rehrl's absence.
With a victory on the second day, Lamparter completed his win in the first “German Trophy”.
The young Austrian had the lowest total time of 2:02:06 hours in all six competitions, securing the victory and extra prize money of 10.000 euros, which was provided by title sponsor trivago.
Second place went to the German Julian Schmid 3:16 min behind, who received 5.000 euros, while Norwegian Jens Luraas Oftebro (+4:23 min) took third place and secured 2.500 euros.
The rule that all six competitions must be attended in order to be listed in the overall ranking rewards not only good daily performances but also the consistency of the athletes.
Due to the great premiere, the format should also be held for the Nordic Combined women in the coming year.
