Assistant Race Director Jan Rune Grave opened the men’s second Mass Start race of the season with the traditional starting gun.

All athletes, led by the top 3 of the Overall World Cup, went together in the 10 km course in Otepää (EST).

Due to the short time gaps, there were continuous changes in lead at the front of the field. Norwegian Jens Luraas Oftebro lead the large group after 1.2 km, followed by Joergen Graabak and Matteo Baud from France.

The Germans took over most of the leading work and took the first places at the 2.5km with Jakob Lange and 3.7km with Fabian Riessle.
After 7.5 km Oftebro took the lead again followed by 14 athletes within 2 seconds distance.
It all came down to an exciting finish sprint between Lamparter and the brothers Jens and Einar Oftebro.

In the end, Jens prevailed against his brother 0.3 seconds ahead, while Lamparter took the third place 0.9 seconds behind.

With a jump on the furthest distance of the day on 99.5 meters and 133.8 points Johannes Lamparter secured the victory of the Mass Start event on the HS97.
Ilkka Herola from Finland reached 98.5 meters (124.1 pts) secured the second place ahead of Austrias Thomas Rettenegger (96.5 m, 116.7 pts), who claimed his first World Cup podium today.
