Seefeld TRIPLE: Lamparter claims home victory
Jan 28, 2023·Nordic CombinedJohannes Lamparter is the winner of day 2 of the Seefeld TRIPLE 2023.
In front of his home crowd, the Austrian was already the winner of the Ski Jumping competition on the Toni Seelos HS 109 in the morning.
Under winterly conditions the Austrian jumped 109 meters (145.8 pts) and took the lead. Therefore, he was the first one to start into the 10 km race at the WM Arena this afternoon.
Rank 2 after jumping went to Ryota Yamamoto from Japan, who landed at 106 meters (144.1 pts) and went into the course only 7 seconds after Lamparter.
Estonian Kristjan Ilves reached the furthest distance of the day with 111.5 meters and placed third, 10 seconds behind the leader.
Overall World Cup leader Jarl Magnus Riiber was disqualified due to a hole in his suit.
With ten athletes going into the race within the first minute, including the strong skiing Germans Vinzenz Geiger and Julian Schmid, a tight fight for the podium could be expected.
Lamparter ran a lonely race at the front but tried to keep the distance to his pursuer as bi gas possible.
He continuously increased his lead and was 27 seconds ahead after 2.5 km.
While the pursuers Ilves, Franz-Josef Rehrl and Yamamoto tried to close the gap, the “German train” consisting of Geiger and Schmid rushed up from behind and caught up with the chasing group after 3.7 km.
Yamamoto couldn't keep up with the high pace after the Germans took the lead and worked their way up to Lamparter second by second.
In the end, however, the Austrian could no longer be caught and secured Austria's first Individual victory in Seefeld since Mario Stecher in 2010.
Geiger and Schmid turned onto the home stretch together and delivered an exciting sprint, which Geiger (+20.3 sec) won. Schmid completed the podium in third, 22.7s behind Lamparter.
