Youth Cup: Finals 2022/23 in Harrachov (CZE)

The last Youth Cup of the 2022/23 season took place in Harrachov (CZE) on January 7th -8th.

Two competitions, each for boys and girls, where held in the Youth Cup 1 and 2 categories.

114 athletes from 11 nations were on start for a total of eight Individual Gundersen competitions on the K70 in Harrachov.

In the boys' YC 1, Maximilian Vorderegger from Austria prevailed against the competition on both days.

On Saturday, Vorderegger was already in the lead after the Ski Jumping part and was able to defend first place over 3 km to the finish.

Second place also went to Austria with Kenji Grossegger (+4 sec), who narrowly defeated Arne Hohlfeld (+4 sec) from Germany in a photo finish.

On Sunday, Hohlfeld, who was fourth after Ski Jumping, finished second after the 2 km cross-country race. He showed a strong performance on the course and finished 12 seconds behind Vorderegger on rank 1. Third place went to Grossegger, 26 seconds back.

Both days' victories in the girls' YC 1 also went to the same athlete.

Anna-Sophia Gredler from Austria showed a great skiing performance on Saturday after a 10th place in Ski Jumping and reached the finish after 3 km as first, 8 seconds ahead of Fabienne Klumpp from Germany.

Third place went to her teammate Mara Jolie Schlossarek (+14 sec).

Also on Sunday, Gredler and Klumpp (+6 sec) took the first two places with the two best times over 2 km. Third place went to Katharina Gruber (+7 sec) from Austria.

Like in YC 1, the same athlete won twice in the boys' YC 2 on both days.

Czech Lukas Dolezal prevailed against his competitors on home soil and took first place with a lead of 38 seconds.

Norwegian Erik Leiramo, who started second after the Ski Jumping round, defended second place against Jan John from the Czech Republic (+47 sec), who jumped from 14th place to 3rd with a great performance on skis over 5 km.

Dolezal, who was already in the lead after the Ski Jumping part with 71 m, won on Sunday as well and was the first to start the 4 km race. He reached the finish line 45 seconds ahead of Jan John, who once again ran the fastest time and took 2nd place coming from 19th. The Czech podium swipe was completed by Jachym Hrdina (+57 sec) in 3rd place.

As in the other categories, the same athlete won twice in the girls' YC 2.

Ingrid Laate from Norway was already in the lead after the Ski Jumping round on Saturday with 68 m and defended it to the finish.

Second place went to Brina Susnik (+38 sec) from Slovenia, who prevailed over 3 km against her teammate Zala Mihelcic (+1:13 min) as third, who started the race from second place after the Jumping part.

Also on Sunday, Laate was the Ski Jumping winner with 65 m and also the first to reach the finish line with a lead of 40 seconds. Susnik had the fastest time over 2 km with 7:40.8 min and again secured second place (+40 sec) ahead of Mihelcic (+1:10 min), who completed the podium.

With the final competition weekend in Harrachov, the Youth Cup season 2022/23 comes to an end.
After successful events in Tschagguns (AUT) in August 2022, the Overall Youth Cup champions have been determined.
