COC: First victory for Wille Karhumaa

Wille Karhumaa celebrated his first Continental Cup victory in Klingenthal (GER) today.

After the Ski Jumping competition on the Vogtlandschanze HS 85 had to be cancelled due to changing wind conditions, the results of the Provisional Competition Round were used for the second Individual Gundersen of the weekend.

Therefore, Norwegian Torje Seljeset was the first one to start into the 10 km cross-country race, after winning the PCR with the best jump on 82.5 meters (124.8 pts) on Friday. 
Rank 2 went to Nick Siegemund from Germany with 81.5 meters and a total of 124.2 points, who started the race only 2 seconds after the leader. 
Finn Wille Karhumaa (78 m, 122.5 pts) placed third, 9 seconds behind.

With a total of 10 athletes, who went into the course within the first 30 seconds, a tight fight for the victory took place. 
In the end, Karhumaa narrowly prevailed against his competitors and took the first victory of his career, 1.3 seconds ahead of German Tristan Sommerfeldt. 
Double-winner Fabian Riessle, who placed 30th after Ski Jumping, showed another impressive cross-country performance and came third, 5 seconds behind Karhumaa.

Aleksander Skoglund from Norway placed 14th but still defended his Overall Continental Cup lead.
