COC: Second win for Riessle in Klingenthal (GER)
Jan 20, 2024·Nordic CombinedWith another fantastic catch-up race, Fabian Riessle also took the victory of the Individual Gundersen in Klingenthal (GER) today.
Jiri Kovalinka was in the lead after the Ski Jumping competition on the Vogtlandschanze HS 85 with a hill record jump on 87 meters.
The Czech collected a total of 132.3 points, which brought him a 29 second lead for the 10 km cross-country race in the afternoon.
Rank 2 after jumping went to Richard Stenzel from Germany with 84 meters and 125.1 points.
Like yesterday Jens Dahlseide Kvamme (82.5m, 122.6 pts) from Norway placed third, 39 seconds behind the leader.
Despite his big head start, Kovalinka couldn’t defend his position and was overtaken by the strong skiers chasing him from behind. He finished the race on rank 17, while the battle for victory was once again fought between five athletes.
Fabian Riessle, who was in 26th place after Ski Jumping, 1:20 minutes behind, proofed his strength again and sprinted to the front of the leading group.
His teammate Jakob Lange (17th after Ski Jumping) and Norwegian Aleksander Skoglund (29th after Ski Jumping) also showed impressive performances and entered the home straight together with Wille Karhumaa from Finland and Austrian Florian Kolb.
Like yesterday, there was a showdown shortly before the finish line where Riessle once again demonstrated his sprinting strength and won.
Second place went to Lange (+1 sec), closely followed by Overall COC leader Skoglund (+1.6 sec), while Karhumaa (+2.2 sec) and Kolb (+2.6 sec) had to make do with the ungrateful fourth and fifth places.
