Live Talk with Ida Marie Hagen
Jul 19, 2023·Nordic CombinedMixed Team World Champion Ida Marie Hagen was our guest in the latest episode of the FIS Nordic Combined Instagram Live Talk series.
The Norwegian told us about the advantages of sharing an apartment with other athletes, how she coped with the dramatic medal loss at the Individual World Championship competition in Planica and answered personal questions from her fans.
The Norwegian Ski Association is one of the leading associations when it comes to cooperation with other nations.
In addition to Estonia and Kazakhstan, the Scandinavians will also be supporting the United States in the coming season.
Already last year, Frenchwoman Lena Brocard trained with the Norwegian team for several weeks in the summer and lived with Hagen and her sister Mille in Oslo.
“When you live with other athletes it is much easier, than living with regular people. It gives you a lot, because they understand your schedule. Sport is not only about sport, but also about making friends and it is cool to spend time together at home, since we travel so much during the winter and get very close”, said Hagen, who even visited Brocard and her family at home in France this summer.
“I tried to convince Lena to come back to Norway, but she will stay in France this year. “
With Annika Malacinski (USA) moving in with the Hagen sisters in August, Ida can still look forward to another athlete joining the athletes apartment.
Despite the great private relationship of the Nordic Combined women, they are of course competitors in competitions.
This was particularly evident at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Planica, where Hagen was on course for a medal before being left behind by Nathalie Armbruster (GER) and Haruka Kasai (JPN) in the last lap.
"I was pretty upset afterwards", admitted the 22-year-old. “Especially because I was so relieved after the Ski Jumping part when I thought I had great chances to go for silver at least. My actual goal for this season was to win the World Championships and I know that's a high one, but I really wanted to go for gold."
Find out why Hagen missed the Individual medal in the end, how special the Mixed Team gold felt afterwards and which personal song she chose for the exclusive Nordic Combined Athletes playlist on Spotify in the complete Live Talk on the official FIS Nordic Combined Instagram account.
