Oberstdorf (GER): Riiber triumphs with strong finish sprint

Thomas Rettenegger was in the lead after the Ski Jumping competition on the Schattenbergschanze HS106 this morning.
In freezing temperatures the Austrian jumped the furthest distance of the day with 105.5 meters (147.4 pts) in the morning and took the lead. Therefore, he was the first one to start into the 10 km at the this afternoon.
Rank 2 after jumping went to Jarl Magnus Riiber from Norway, who landed at 105 meters (146.4 pts) and went into the course only 4 seconds after Rettenegger.
Franz-Josef Rehrl (105 mts, 141 pts) placed third 26 seconds behind the leader.
With Overall World Cup second Johannes Lamparter on rank 4 (+30 sec) a tight fight for the podium could be expected.
Riiber caught up with Thomas Rettenegger in the first kilometer and confidently took the lead, while Johannes Lamparter went through the first half of the race together with Stefan Rettenegger and Franz-Josef Rehrl.
Meanwhile, Riiber increased his lead and was 18.3 seconds in the lead after 5km.
Thomas Rettenegger couldn't keep up with his teammates' high pace and, like Rehrl, fell behind.
At the same time, Riiber was also visibly losing ground and was finally overtaken by Lamparter and Stefan Rettenegger on the last lap.
The three leaders reached the stadium together and delivered an exciting finish sprint.
In the end, Riiber narrowly beat his Austrian competitors and won ahead of Lamparter (+1 sec) and Rettenegger (+3.3 sec).
With his victory, Riiber takes the lead in the WIRmachenDRUCK German Trophy.
