Oslo (NOR): Riiber claims 6th King’s Cup
Mar 09, 2024·Nordic CombinedJarl Magnus Riiber won his 6th King’s Cup after securing the victory of the men’s first Individual Gundersen of the weekend in Oslo (NOR) today.
The Norwegian was already in the lead after the Ski Jumping competition on the Holmenkollen HS 134 this morning.
In changing wind conditions, the Overall World Cup champion 2023/24 jumped the furthest distance of the day with 135 meters (142.6 pts) and took the lead. Therefore, he was the first one to start into the 10 km cross-country race this afternoon.
Rank 2 after jumping went to Johannes Lamparter from Austria, who landed at 126 meters (123.2 pts) and went the course 1:18 min after Riiber.
Franz-Josef Rehrl (126.5 mts, 121.5 pts) placed third, 1:24 min behind the leader.
Riiber ran a lonely race at the top, uncatchable for his pursuers.
However, the battle for the remaining two podium places was more than exciting. Stefan Rettenegger in particular showed a strong catch-up race and after 2.5km he worked his way up from 7th place after jumping to 3rd place (+1:38.9 min) and led the chasing group around Rehrl, Germans Terence Weber and David Machen as well as Thomas Rettenegger at.
Halfway through the race, Stefan Rettenegger broke away from the rest of his pursuers and closed the gap to his teammate in second place.
Meanwhile, Riiber constantly increased his lead and was ahead of Rettenegger and Lamparter with 1:42.1 minutes after 7.5 km.
While Riiber celebrated his 73rd World Cup victory in front of the royal family and won his 6th King's Trophy, Johannes Lamparter (+1:28.6 min) secured second place, ahead of Stefan Rettenegger (+1:33.5 min) on rank 3.
