Seefeld (AUT): Riiber breaks World Cup podium record

Jarl Magnus Riiber is the winner of the first TRIPLE competition in Seefeld (AUT) and is now the record holder for most World Cup podium finishes in the history of Nordic Combined.

The Overall World Cup leader was already in the lead after the Ski Jumping competition on the Toni-Seelos-Olympiaschanze HS109 this morning.

Beneath a cloudy sky, the Norwegian reached 110.5 meters and collected a total of 148 points. Therefore, he was the first one to start into the 7.5 km at the WM stadium this afternoon.

Rank 2 after jumping went to Ryota Yamamoto from Japan, who jumped the furthest distance of the day with 112 meters (138.5 pts) and went into the course 38 seconds after Riiber.

Joergen Graabak (109 mts, 137.5 pts) placed third, 42 seconds behind his Norwegian team mate.

While Riiber ran a lonely race at the front, Johannes Lamparter started a fantastic race to catch up. The Austrian, who did not start in Schonach for health reasons, ran a strong race and fought his way to the front of the chasing group after 3.7 km.

Yamamoto couldn't keep up with the high pace and fell back, while Graabak was still in second place after 5 km, 43.6 seconds behind Riiber.

On the third lap, Lamparter was able to pull away from Jens Luraas Oftebro, Stefan Rettenegger and the other pursuers on the climb.

While Riiber celebrated his 66th World Cup victory, taking the lead in the TRIPLE, Graabak (+38.1 sec) also defended his second place until the finish. Lamparter (+48.5 sec) completed the podium in third place after 7.5km.

With his 91st World Cup podium finish, Riiber now holds the record beating Hannu Manninen (90).
