The first day of the FIS Continental Cup in Schonach, Germany, saw thrilling Mass Start races for both men and women, despite challenging weather conditions.

The women’s 4 km race kicked off the day at the Wittenbach cross-country stadium, which also hosted World Cup events the previous weekend. Despite warm temperatures throughout the week, the local organizing committee worked hard to maintain the snow and ensure good conditions for the event.

18 athletes from eight nations lined up for the start. Leading the pack with an impressive total time of 11:41.5 minutes was Marie Naehring of Germany. Naehring delivered a dominant performance, leaving her competitors well behind. Fellow German Trine Goepfert secured second place, finishing 32.4 seconds behind Naehring. Italy’s Veronica Gianmoena, who also competed in last weekend’s World Cup in Schonach, claimed third place, just 33.6 seconds back.

The wind conditions very really challenging today, but I did a good cross-country race and a solid performance on the hill.Trine Göpfert (GER), Winner

The competition moved to the Langenwaldschanze HS100 for the Ski Jumping round, which was affected by wind delays. Despite the interruptions, Trine Goepfert (GER) produced the best performance with a jump of 77 meters, earning 80.8 points and her second Continental Cup victory.

Anne Haeckel (GER) recorded the longest jump of the day at 87.5 meters, scoring 72.8 points. This result allowed her to move from 11th place after the cross-country race to second overall. Daniela Dejori (ITA) finished in third place with a jump of 77.5 meters and 70.3 points.

All results can be found here.

Men’s Competition

The men’s Ski Jumping round was postponed to Sunday morning due to high winds, with results to be decided on the second day of competition.

We had to cancel the men’s Ski Jumping round today after 15 athletes due to heavy and inconsistent wind. It will take place tomorrow in the early morning, with starting the jumping round again from bib 1 to get this Mass Start finished.Michael Neumayer, FIS COC Coordinator
