Youth Cup: Germany, Norway and Slovenia triumph in Tschagguns

The second competitions of the FIS Youth Cup 2024/25 season took place in Tschagguns (AUT) yesterday.

With 128 athletes from 13 nations the numerous spectators witnessed four exciting Individual Gundersen events of the Youth Cup I and II on the Montafoner Schanzenzentrum HS 66 and in the village on a 2.8 km roller ski course.

In the Boys I category, after the Ski Jumping part, Friday’s winner Simon Grossegger from Austria was again in the lead with 63 meters and 109.9 points.

Rank 2 was taken by Friday’s third Marek Potancok from Slovakia with 60 meters and 103.3 points, while Norwegian Victor Hugo Sivle (58 m, 103.2 pts) placed third. Both will start the 2.8 km roller ski race 20 seconds after Grossegger.

The Austrian couldn’t defend his position and was overtaken by German Max Mammey, who showed a strong race, working his way up all the way from 7th place after jumping.
In a finish sprint he prevailed against Grossegger, who placed second, 2.9 seconds behind.
Till Messerschmidt, also from Germany, came in third, 25.9 seconds after Mammey.

Also, in the Girls I category, Friday’s winner, Michele-Sophie Eller, took the lead with on 62 meters. The German collected 113.9 points and was first to start into the 2.8 km roller ski race.

Rank 2 was taken by Austrian Anna Brandner with the furthest jump of the day on 63 meters (12.8 pts), who placed only 3 seconds behind the German.

Her team mate Amy Doegl (58 m, 101.9 pts) placed third, 36 seconds behind the leader.

Just like yesterday, Eller showed a strong performance on the course and constantly extended her lead. She reached the finish line first, ahead of Anna Brandner (+51.1 sec) who also kept her position, placing second in the end.
Rank three was taken by Mareike Zuefle from Germany, who was 6thafter jumping, 1:05.2 min behind the winner.

In the Boys II category, Alvin Le, Overall YC 2 leader after his victory on Friday, secured the Ski Jumping victory with 63 meters. With a total score of 124.9 points, the Norwegian went into the subsequent 5.6 km roller ski race with a 24 second lead.

Hektor Kapustik from Slovakia took second place with the best jump of the day on 64 meters (118.9 pts).

Third place after Ski Jumping went to Illia Chebolda from Ukraine with 61.5 meters (118.7 pts), 25 seconds behind Le.

In an exciting race, Le kept his competitors at a distance until the finish line, while Anze Brecl came racing up from behind. The Slovenian, who was 15th after jumping, showed a fantastic race and finished second in the end, 30.5 sec behind the Norwegian.
In an exciting finish sprint, Slovakian Hektor Kapustik (+30.4 sec) narrowly lost against Brecl, placing third.

In the Girls II competition, Kira Maria Kapustikova took the lead after the ski jumping part with 59.5 meters. The Slovakian collected 107.2 points and started the 2.8 km race with a 12 second lead.

French Marion Droz Vincent (60.5 m, 103.3 pts) took second place ahead of Masa Likozar Brankovic (58 m, 101.7 pts) from Slovenia, 17 seconds behind.

Brankovic showed a strong race on roller skis and took the lead from Kapustikova who fell back to 8thplace.
The Slovenian secured the victory, ahead of Vincent, who kept her position as second, 10.2 seconds behind.
Manca Kobentar from Slovenia, who was 4thafter jumping, reached the finish line as third, 32.2 seconds after the winner.

The next FIS Youth Cup competitions will take place in Harrachov (CZE), 18.-19. January 2025.
Currently Austrian Simon Grossegger (Youth Cup Boys 1), German Michele-Sophie Eller (Youth Cup Girls 1), Norwegian Alvin Le (Youth Cup Boys 2), Slovenian Masa Likozar Brankovic (Youth Cup Girls 2) are the overall leaders.
