Para Nordic World Champs award l10km medals

The 10-kilometer freestyle competitions at the FIS Para Nordic World Ski Championship offered blood, sweat and tears as the six classes battled for the final individual medals.

The winner in the men's sitting class was the Italian Giuseppe Romele, who dominated in his self-procalimed favorite event. In the women's sitting 10km race, it was once again time for Kendall Gretsch to cross the finish line as the winner.

Gretsch has been almost unbeatable in his class and with today's performance has taken home a whopping five gold medals during the World Championships. Second behind Gretsch was German Anja Wicker and third was Brazilian Aline dos Santos Rocha.

22-year-old Vilde Nielsen (NOR) took home the victory in the women's standing class in a time of 27:13.8. Vilde previously won the 18-kilometer race..

"Today I won because I've been training extremely well over the past year. I have followed up the training with both the national team and the Olympic team in Norway, says the victorious Norwegian.

Mark Arendz once again won the men's standing class, taking his third gold medal of the week. He described how he prepared for the world championship in Östersund.

"I've been working on just getting the performances together. After the Paralympic Games in Beijing, it was time to take a little break, but it also made me miss a lot of training. I wasn't sure how this year would go, but so far it has really surprised. I've been able to work on small details of skiing and shooting. Very nice that the form has really been noticeable the last three races here," Canadian Mark Arendz said after the finish.

Swede Zebastian Modin took home the men's class for skaters with visual impairments, ahead of runner-up Jake Adicoff and third-place finisher Oleksandr Kazik. It was a tired Modin who summed up the race after the finish.

"Today's race was pretty tough. I thought we went out at a reasonable speed but then I got tired, I had to fight. But I'm very pleased, it feels good at the end like this too," commented Zebastian Modin, who is now looking forward to tomorrow's relay.
