Second competition day in Feldberg cancelled
Jan 31, 2021·Ski CrossDespite all efforts by the incredible crew of the organizing committee of Feldberg, which was already on the track since midnight to do everything in their power to save the second competition of the weekend, in the end the snow on the course was too soft to allow for safe race conditions.
The whole morning, the tireless volunteers, course builders, shapers and all parties involved worked as hard as they could, but weather odds were not on the ski cross side on Sunday.
Additionally, strong fog caused a bad visibility, which added to the complications to hold the race. As a result, the second competition day in Feldberg had to be cancelled.
“It was a really big fight today to try and save the course, but with the weather ahead of the weekend, the fresh snow and the high temperatures, the snow did not freeze. Going down in heats of four in these conditions with the bad visibility due to the fog would have been too dangerous and therefore a safe competition could not be guaranteed. That’s why the Jury decided to cancel today’s race.
I really want to thank the entire crew, who has been fighting together with us from the early morning hours on. What a team! Thank you, Feldberg!” FIS Cross Race Director Klaus Waldner concludes after a very long day.
We are now looking forward to going back to Sweden’s Idre Fjäll for the FIS Ski Cross World Championships on February 13.
This of course means that coaches and teams will take a close look on who they are going to nominate for this major event. Each nation can nominate four athletes per gender and the reigning World Champions are additionally nominated automatically, which on the women’s side is Canada’s Marielle Thompson and on the men’s side Frenchman Francois Place. The requirement to be in the mix for a possible World Champs nomination is a minimum of 50 FIS points.
We are excited to see who will be representing their nation in less than two weeks at the Idre Fjäll Cross World Championships. Stay tuned and stay safe everyone!
