Big names missing in Wisla

The 2018 season of the FIS Grand Prix started this weekend in Wisla, but some well-known names were not competing in the opening event in Poland. We explain who is missing and why.
Where was ...
... Severin Freund?
After he sustained an ACL tear in July 2017, the 2014/15 overall World Cup winner started jumping training just about two weeks ago.
... Peter Prevc?
He underwent an ankle surgery last week. The oldest of the Prevc brothers will - if at all - only compete in the final phase of the Grand Prix 2018.
... Markus Eisenbichler?
Eisenbichler is currently taking part in police training, he didn't want to interrupt that and has therefore decided not to compete in the Grand Prix opener in Wisla.
... Team Russia?
The team of Russia, with the new head coach Evgeniy Plekhov, will start to participate in the FIS Grand Prix 2018 in Hinterzarten. "Due to some changes within the team and the staff we started training a bit later, that's why we skipped the Grand Prix in Wisla. Starting with Hinterzarten, we will participate in all competitions of the summer", Plekhov told FISskijumping.com.
... Daniel-Andre Tande?
The Norwegians plans to start jumping training again late August. If everything goes according to plan, Tande will take part only in the final competition of the summer in Klingenthal. The Ski Flying world champion and team Olympic champion was suffering from the Stevens-Johnson-Syndrom this spring and was allowed to train.
... Noriaki Kasai
He is currently training in Japan together with Ryoyu Kobayashi. Kasai is planning to take part in the Grand Prix event in Hakuba.

And then there's Andreas Kofler. The 34-year-old was extremely exciting to return to the hill after almost a year-long break. The 12-time World Cup winner was diagnosed with an auto-immune disease at the beginning of last winter. Due to these health problems, he was not able to compete during the entire last winter. "It's getting better and better, I'm not at 100 % yet, but it feels very good already", Kofler said to FISskijumping.com. In Wisla, Kofler is jumping with to broken toes. He sustained this injury in a collision with his teammate Gregor Schlierenzauer during a training session.
