COC-M: Andreas Wank takes the win

Andreas Wank, who achieved one of the biggest successes of his career in Whistler at the Olympic Games 2010 with the win of the silver medal in the team competition, also had a reason to celebrate in the Whistler Olympic Park on Sunday.

After his eighth place on Saturday, the 29-year-old German took his fifth win in the Continental Cup with the longest jumps in both rounds on 103 m and 102 m and 267.6 points in the second competition of the weekend in Canada. "It was a much better competition for me today. I have great memories of Whistler from 2010. The volunteers and crew made me feel the strong spirit of the Olympics in the area. It's great to be here again and I'm looking forward to seeing Whistler host some World Cups", said Andreas Wank.

The long trip also paid off for Jonathan Learoyd of France. He had already achieved a career-best seventh place in the first competition and the 17-year-old could do even better than that on Sunday. With two jumps of 101 m and a total of 263.5 points, he finished on a great second place and of course he was very satisfied with this result: "I performed much better today. I had two decent jumps and am really happy about the competition."

Not only Jonathan Learoyd but also Ziga Jelar achieved his first podium in the COC on Sunday. The Slovene jumped on 99.5 m and 101 m and came in third with 262.0 points and praised the organizers in Canada: "I really like Whistler, everything was well prepared. The volunteers were very kind and I would be pleased to come again."

Only 0.9 points behind his teammate, Nejc Dezman was fourth, Marius Lindvik of Norway, third on Saturday, confirmed his very good shape at the beginning of the season in fifth today.

Luca Egloff took a great result for Switzerland in sixth and young Pole Tomasz Pilch, who celebrated a surprising win the day before, showed yet another top performance and was seventh. Philipp Aschenwald was eighth and again the best Austrian, Miran Zupancic of Slovenia and Norway's Joachim Hauer completed the Top 10 on the HS 106.

After the first two competitions of the season, Tomasz Pilch leads the overall ranking of the Continental Cup with 136 points. Andreas Wank (132 points) and Jonathan Learoyd (116 points) follow in second and third.

The COC continues next weekend with two competitions in Ruka (FIN).
