COC: Constantin Schmid celebrates his first win

Due to the difficult wind conditions in Chaikovsky (RUS) it was decided to move the first competition on this season's final of the Continental Cup on Saturday afternoon from the large to the normal hill.

The win in the second-to-last competition of the winter went to Germany's Constantin Schmid. He was fourth after his first jump of 98.5 m, in the final the 17-year-old then had the longest jump of the day with 107 m and with a total of 269.0 points he could celebrate his first ever win in the COC after two podium finishes last weekend in Zakopane.

Behind the German youngster, veteran Jakub Janda finished second. The 38-year-old former overall World Cup champion was the best in the first round with 101.5 m, but with 102.5 m in the final and 264.8 points he came in behind Constantin Schmid.

The winning streak of Clemens Aigner of Austria ended after four victories in a row, but with 100.5 m and 101.5 m and a total of 263.6 points he was third and achieved yet another podium result.

Ilmir Hazetdinov was fourth and secured a great result for the hosting team of Russia. His fellow countryman Dimitry Vassiliev was actually fifth in this competition, but because his suit did not meet the rules he was disqualified after the second round.

Austria's Daniel Huber, 12th after the first round, finished fifth overall, his teammate Maximilian Steiner could even move up from 26th to seventh with a great final jump of 105.5 m. For Tim Fuchs of Germany it went in a different direction. He was second after the first round and came in sixth.

Slovenia's Jaka Hvala (8th), only 17-year-old Pole Pawel Wasek (9th) and Hvala's teammate Ziga Jelar (10th) were also among the ten best jumpers of the day.

With his third place, Clemens Aigner secured the overall title of the Continental Cup 2016/17 before the final competition on Sunday (9:00 am CET). Miran Zupancic (888 points) and Nejc Dezman (862 points) are second and third.
