COC-M: David Siegel takes the home win

David Siegel of Germany could celebrate a win in front of a home crowd in the second Continental Cup competition in Titisee-Neustadt.

The 21-year-old former Junior World Champion laid the foundation for this success already in the first round with the longest jump of the day on 140 m. In the final he then jumped on 135 m and took his fourth win in the COC, the first since March 2016, with a total of 277.0 points.  "In the past days I was always looking at the hill hoping that the competitions will not be canceled due to the rain. On Saturday I had a bad first jump, but all in all my performances were very consistent. Of course, I hope that I'll make the World Cup team again", said the local hero.

Right behind the winner, three athletes of Norway finished on the places two to four. The second place went to Marius Lindvik, who won his first COC competition on Saturday and presented himself in a strong shape once again this winter with jumps of 136 m and 135.5 m and 275.1 points.

Sondre Ringen came in third with 137 m and 136.5 m and 270.5 points and achieved his first ever podium finish in the Continental Cup. His best result so far was a sixth place in Engelberg (SUI) right after Christmas. "I'm very happy about the result. In the past, I was not always jumping on this level. Today I simply showed what I already did in training", said Sondre Ringen.

For Tom Hilde, who failed to qualify for the final round in 42nd on Saturday, it went a lot better on Sunday. He came in close behind his young teammates and was fourth. The outstanding team result of the Norwegian was completed by Joachim Hauer in sixth.

Like in the first competition in Titisee-Neustadt, Thomas Lackner was again the best of the Austrians, this time in fifth.

Besides the Norwegians, also the Slovenes showed a strong team performance this afternoon. With Bor Pavlovcic, who moved up from 16th to seventh in the final round, Anze Lanisek (8th) and Tomaz Naglic (10th), three athletes of the team of coach Igor Medved were in the Top 10.

Przemyslaw Kantyka of Poland finished ninth and was, together with David Siegel and Thomas Lackner, one of only three jumpers among the best ten today who are not from Norway or Slovenia.

With his great results this weekend, Marius Lindvik took the lead in the overall ranking of the Continental Cup with 416 points. Tomasz Pilch of Poland is now second with 397 points, Jonathan Learoyd of France (330 points) is currently third.

After a short break of only two days, the Continental Cup continues on Wednesday and Thursday with two competitions in Bischofshofen (AUT).
