COC: Double victory for Slovenia
Aug 31, 2018·Ski JumpingTimi Zajc and Tilen Bartol, both already on the podium on Saturday, were able to further improve their performances in the second competition of the Continental Cup in Trondheim (NOR) and secured a double victory for the team of Slovenia on the Granasen.
Only 17-year-old Timi Zajc, who was on the podium for the first time in his career when he was third yesterday, did even better today and celebrated his first ever win with 137.5 m and 142 m (278.5 points).
Tilen Bartol jumped on 142.5 m in the first round, in the final he then had an incredible jump of 146 m that earned him a total of 277.0 points and another second place, this time behind his fellow countryman.
Constantin Schmid of Germany, bronze medalist at the last Junior World Championships in Park City, was third with 134.5 m and 140.5 m and 271.9 points and finished on the podium for the first time this season.
His two more experienced teammates Richard Freitag and Pius Paschke, the winner of the first competition in Trondheim, were sixth and seventh on Sunday. A good result for the German team, that had these three athletes in the Top 10 on both days.
After the first round today, Austria's Daniel Huber was in the lead ahead of Tilen Bartol and Timi Zajc with 142 m, with his second jump of 135 m he closely missed the podium and came in fourth.
Klemens Muranka was fifth and again the best jumper of the Polish team, Bor Pavlovcic completed the very good result of the Slovenes with his eighth place. Joachim Hauer of Norway (9th) and Poland's Aleksander Zniszczol (10th) can also be satisfied with a result among the best 10 in the final event of the weekend.
In the overall ranking, Klemens Muranka (567 points) still has a clear lead ahead of Pius Paschke (336 points) and Tilen Bartol (327 points).
The next two COC competitions will be held in Rasnov (ROU) on September 23rd and 24th.
