COC: Double victory for Slovenia

Like already in the first competition of the Ski Jumping Continental Cup in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (GER) on Saturday, two members of the strong Slovenian team also made the podium on Sunday.

Miran Zupancic, third in the first competition, took his second win the COC on Sunday, almost exactly two years after his first one in Sapporo. The 27-year-old from the club SK Zagorje showed jumps of 134 m and 129 m on the Olympic hill and scored 257.5 points.

Anze Lanisek, the outstanding athlete on Saturday, had to be satisfied with the second place behind his teammate this time. Lanisek scored 245.8 points with 128.5 m and 127 m and secured the double victory for his team.

The third place went to Sigurd Nymoen Soeberg of Norway with 132 m and 123.5 m and 240.6 points. With this performance the 22-year-old from Lillehammer could celebrate his first podium finish in the Continental Cup.

After the first round, Soeberg's teammate Marius Lindvik was third, but with 124.5 m and 123 m and 238.8 points he closely missed the Top 3 and came in fourth.

Philipp Aschenwald was fifth and the best of the Austrians, who could achieve another very good result, even if it was not enough for the very top, with Clemens Aigner and Elias Tollinger in seventh and eighth, Florian Altenburger in 11th and Maximilian Steiner in 12th.

Best German was again Pius Paschke, who could improve his 13th place from Saturday and finished sixth. Alex Insam of Italy was ninth Slovenia's Nejc Dezman completed the Top 10.

Austria's Daniel Huber, who is currently competing in the World Cup in Wisla, remains in the lead of the overall ranking after this weekend with 356 points. He is followed by his teammate Florian Altenburger (341 points) and Miran Zupancic (323 points).

The athletes in the COC now have a long trip to Japan ahead of them where three competitions will be held in Sapporo next weekend (January 20 - 22).
