COC-M: First win for Jonathan Learoyd

With the Continental Cup in Engelberg this week, the short Christmas break for the ski jumpers ends exactly where the last World Cup before the holidays was held. And with Jonathan Learoyd, the win in the first of the two competitions in Switzerland went to an athlete, who was also competing there ten days ago.
The 17-year-old Frenchman, who made his debut in the World Cup in Engelberg recently, laid the foundation for this success already in the first round with the longest jump of the day on 135.5 m. With 128 m in the final and 259.1 points, he then claimed his first ever win in the COC. So far the second place in Whistler (CAN) a bit more than two weeks ago was his best result.
Viktor Polasek of the Czech Republic finished second with jumps of 133 m and 128.5 m and a total of 250.6 points and secured his first podium result this season.
A success for the hosting team of Switzerland was provided by Kilian Peier, who came in third with 131 m and 129.5 m (248.6 points). With this performance, the local hero achieved his best COC-result since December 2014.
The fourth place on the HS 140 went to Norway's Marius Lindvik, followed by Tomasz Pilch of Poland, who moved up from 14th to fifth with the best jump in the final round of 131.5 m. Norwegian Sondre Ringen came in on a career-best sixth place.
The best Slovene in this competition was Tomaz Naglic in seventh, the Top 10 were completed by Vladimir Zografski of Bulgaria (8th), Slovenia's Bor Pavlovcic (9th) and Clemens Leitner of Austria, who was only 17th after the first round and finished tenth overall.
It was a bad day for Clemens Leitner's teammate Markus Schiffner. He would have been fourth but was disqualified after the second round because his suit did not meet the rules.
Tomasz Pilch remains in the lead of the overall ranking with 317 points. Ziga Jelar of Slovenia (224 points) and Jonathan Learoyd (216 points) follow in second and third.
