COC-M: First win for Maximilian Steiner

The long Continental Cup weekend with three competitions in Poland and the Czech Republic ended on Sunday afternoon with the Jiri-Raska-Memorial event in Frenstat (CZE).

There Maximilian Steiner surprisingly came in first. The 21-year-old Austrian, already among the best on the past two days in Szczyrk and Wisla in seventh and eighth, took the first win of his career in the COC with 101 m and 99 m and 245.4 points. So far two second places, most recently last March in Zakopane, were his best results.

Andreas Schuler could also celebrate the best performance of his career. With 99.5 m and the longest jump of the day of 103 m, the Swiss finished second, only 1.3 points behind the winner.

Klemens Muranka of Poland presented himself in a great shape also in Frenstat and stood on the podium for the third time in a row. After second places on Friday (Szczyrk) and Saturday (Wisla), his jumps of 99 m and 98 m and 240.3 points earned him a third place today.

Slovenia's Miran Zupancic, who won the competition yesterday, closely missed the podium in fourth, followed by Tomas Vancura, who was the best athlete of the hosts in fifth.

Pius Paschke showed consistent performances during this Beskydy-Tour. After he was fifth and seventh in the two competitions in Poland he was the best German again today, this time in sixth. The seventh place went to Ziga Jelar of Slovenia, Austrian Thomas Lackner came in eighth. Andreas Alamommo achieved a very good result for Finland with his ninth place. Lukas Wagner (10th) was the second German in today's Top 10.

Klemens Muranka extended his lead in the overall ranking of the Continental Cup. The Pole scored 420 points in the five competitions so far. Miran Zupancic (322 points) and Aleksander Zniszczol (170) points follow in second and third.

Klemens Muranka also won the first edition of the Beskydy-Tour, consisting of the competitions in Szczyrk, Wisla and Frenstat, with a total of 769.3 points. Miran Zupancic finished second with 765.5 points, the third place went to Ziga Jelar (753.5 points).

The Continental Cup continues on September 9th and 10th with two competitions in Stams (AUT).
