COC: Local hero Bor Pavlovcic on top

Local hero Bor Pavlovcic celebrated a home victory in the first of two Continental Cup competitions this weekend in the Slovenian Ski Jumping mecca Planica.
The 18-year-old athlete of the club ND Ratece Planica took his first ever win in the COC with jumps of 133.5 m and 137 m and 285.4 points right on his home hill. His best result so far was a third place in Sapporo in January 2016. "The day went perfect. When I got up in the morning I felt really good and I said to myself that I’m going to show some good jumps today. The expectations for tomorrow maybe got a little bit higher but I still have to stay focused on my jumps because that is the only way I can jump well", said the happy winner.
The second place on the large hill, which is located right next to the famous Ski Flying hill were the World Cup final we be held a few weeks from now, went to Joakim Aune of Norway with 129.5 m and 135.5 m and 277.6 points. "It went really well today. It’s always nice to fly in Planica. I am really happy with the second place and I hope I can continue like this tomorrow", said the Norwegian.
The newly crowned Junior World Champion Viktor Polasek of the Czech Republic was in the lead after the first round with 135 m, at the end he came in third behind Pavlovcic and Aune with 131.5 m in the final and 276.4 points. "It was a good competition. I came here with high expectations so it’s nice to finish on the podium. I hope to get another top 10 finish tomorrow, but it would be nice to finish even better than today."
Daniel Huber of Austria, who had the longest jump of the day with 138 m in the second round, finished fourth and missed the podium by the tiny margin of only 0.2 points. With Rok Tarman in fifth another ski jumper of the local club achieved a top result.
Norway's Sigurd Nymoen Soeberg moved up from 17th to 6th with a great final jump on 136.5 m. Antti Aalto was seventh and took a strong result for Finland.
The Italian team could also show a convincing performance this afternoon. With Sebastian Colloredo in eighth and Alex Insam and Davide Bresadola in tenth and 11th, all three Italian competitors achieved very good results. The ninth place went to Miran Zupancic of Slovenia.
Nejc Dezman of Slovenia, who finished only 21st today after four podium finishes in a row recently, defended his lead in the overall ranking of the Continental Cup. With 746 points he leads ahead of his teammate Miran Zupancic (733 points) and Joakim Aune (541 points).
