COC-M: Manuel Fettner claims the win in Zakopane

Manuel Fettner of Austria was the best in the first of two competitions at the Continental Cup in Zakopane (POL) on Saturday afternoon.
The 32-year-old Tyrolean posted jumps of 134 m and 138.5 m on the Wielka Krokiew hill in the Polish Ski Jumping mecca and took his already 20th win in the COC with 262.7 points. "I didn't expect to win here today. I moved down from the World Cup to the Continental Cup to improve my jumps. I'm very satisfied with my performance today because I'm jumping better and better", said Manuel Fettner.
The second place went to Slovenia's Bor Pavlovcic, who jumped on 137 m and 135.5 m and scored a total of 259.3 points. With today's performance, the 19-year-old achieved his first podium finish this winter. "I'm glad that I'm back on the podium and that I made some good jumps", said the young Slovene.
Manuel Fettner's teammate Ulrich Wohlgenannt came in third with 135 m and 137 m and 257.2 points. Besides Fettner and Wohlgenannt, Stefan Huber and Manuel Poppinger came in among the best as well in sixth and seventh and provided a strong team result for the Austrians. "I have been here eight times for Continental Cups and FIS Cups and I was always on the podium. Only at the World Cup I wasn't, but hopefully, that will happen in the future. I like the hill and the atmosphere, this is a motivation for me", said Ulrich Wohlgenannt.
Best German in this competition was Felix Hoffmann. He tied for fourth with Tomaz Naglic of Slovenia. The eighth place went to Germany's Pius Paschke.
The biggest surprise of the day was provided by Sergey Tkachenko of Kazakhstan. With 138.5 m, the 18-year-old had the longest jump of the first round and was third, behind Fettner and Pavlovcic, after the first half of the competition. He could not defend this great position in the final, but 132.5 m were still enough for the ninth place and this is by far the best result of his career.
The Top 10 today were completed by the best jumper of the hosting team, Pawel Wasek.
Marius Lindvik of Norway (1102 points) and the two Germans Andreas Wank (1040 points) and David Siegel (968 points) remain the Top 3 in the overall ranking, despite not competing in Zakopane.
