COC-M: Nejc Dezman and David Siegel win in Brotterode

Aug 31, 2018·Ski Jumping

After it was not possible to carry out the competition on Saturday evening at the Continental Cup in Brotterode (GER) due to the strong wind, two events took place on the Inselberg-hill on Sunday.

In the first competition of the day, the win went to Slovenia's Nejc Dezman. The 25-year-old, who could also win in Brotterode last year, was sixth after the first round with 105 m, in the final he then posted a jump of 115.5 m and secured his first win of the season with 246.9 points.

He was followed by the two Germans David Siegel and Andreas Wank, who were tied for fourth after the first half of the competition, in second and third. David Siegel jumped on 104.5 m and 114.5 m and scored 245.9 points. Andreas Wank showed jumps of 109 m and 112 m (244.8 points) on his 30th birthday.

Daniel Huber of Austria moved up from tenth to fourth in the second round. His teammate Clemens Leitner could improve his result even more. He was 16th after the first round and moved up to sixth overall with the longest jump of the competition on 118.5 m in the final.

Jakub Wolny of Poland was the best in the first round with his jump of 113 m, but with 108.5 m he lost some ground in the second round and finished fifth.

The second competition of the day then started after only a short break and the fans in Brotterode could celebrate a home victory of David Siegel this afternoon. The 21-year-old posted jumps of 112.5 m and 114 m on the HS 117 and stood on top of the podium with his 269.9 points.

Like in the first event only a few hours earlier, Jakub Wolny was the leader after the first round. The former Junior World Champion could again not defend this position and finished second with 114.5 m and 115 m only the tiny margin of 0.5 points behind the winner.

Anze Lanisek of Slovenia, seventh in the first event, came in third in this close competition with his jumps of 112.5 m and 114 m that earned him a total of 266.3 points.

Daniel Huber repeated his result from earlier today and narrowly missed the podium again in fourth. Halvor Egner Granerud of Norway could make amends for his disappointing 33rd place in the first competition and finished on a good fifth place.

Behind Andreas Wank (6th) and Nejc Dezman (7th), Florian Altenburger, Philipp Aschenwald and Clemens Leitner provided a good ream result for the Austrians in eighth, ninth and tenth.

After this long day in Brotterode, Nejc Dezman leads the overall ranking of the Continental Cup with 807 points, close ahead of the two Germans David Siegel and Andreas Wank (both 799 points).

The next two competitions of the COC will take place on February 24th and 25th in Klingenthal (GER).
