The summer season of the Ladies Continental Cup kicks off this weekend with two competitions in Oberwiesenthal (GER).

In the first event on Friday, Ramona Straub could celebrate a home victory. The 23-year-old German showed jumps of 96.5 m and 95 m and took her first win in the Continental Cup with 237.2 points. So far a second place in March 2013 was her best result. "I'm totally surprised, I really didn't expect that. It was an extremely relaxed competition. Tomorrow I'll do my best again, but it will be tough", the winner said afterwards.

With 233.7 points, the second place went to the only 15-year-old Pole Kamila Karpiel, who had the longest jumps in both rounds with 98 m and 98.5 m in only her third COC competition. "Right now everything is just fine. I was fifth in a FIS Cup once, but in the COC I have never been this good before."

In her first ever Continental Cup event, young Japanese Ren Mikase finished third with two jumps of 92.5 m and a total of 214.9 points. "This is a very important moment for me, because it's my first podium. I'm very happy and I hope that I can continue jumping this strong."

Anna Shpyneva of Russia finished fourth, followed by the second-best Japanese Nozomi Maruyama in fifth. The best of the Austrian team was Claudia Purker in sixth. The strong performances of the young teams of Russia and Japan were completed by Lidiia Iakovleva and Ayuka Kamoda in seventh and eighth.

Norway's Anna Odine Stroem tied for eighth with the Japanese, Oceane Avocat Gros (10th) represented France in today's Top 10 in Oberwiesenthal.

The second competition follows on Saturday at 10:30 am CET.
