COC-M: Slovenes celebrate in Planica
Aug 31, 2018·Ski JumpingIn the second competition of the Continental Cup in the Slovenian Ski Jumping center of Planica, the hosts could celebrate a 1-2 finish by Anze Lanisek and Jurij Tepes.
Anze Lanisek, who had already dominated the first event on Saturday, stood on top of the podium again on Sunday morning. The 21-year-old of the ski club SSK Menges had the longest jump of the day in the first round with 134 m. In the final, he landed at 130 m and took his second win in a row with 267.5 points. "I'm jumping on a very high level. I still made some mistakes, but I'm satisfied with the performance. The most important thing is that I enjoy jumping", said Anze Lanisek.
Lanisek's teammate Jurij Tepes, who was 14th on Saturday, posted jumps of 132.5 m and 129 m this time and came in second with his total of 258.8 points. "I'm really happy because usually I have quite a few problems here in Planica. Yesterday I made a mistake with the choice of the equipment, but these things happen. I'm happy that I could correct that today and that I proved myself that I can be among the best", said Jurij Tepes.
Philipp Aschenwald of Austria was third with 128.5 m and 131 m (251.4 points) and continued his streak in Planica with the fourth podium finish in his fourth COC competition on this hill. "I didn't show my best jump in the first round, I was a bit nervous. I knew that I could do better in the second round and that's what I was focusing on. I'm happy with the result", said Philipp Aschenwald.
After his third place yesterday, Pius Paschke closely missed the podium in this event, but he lead a strong German team in fourth today. With Andreas Wank, Marin Hamann and Moritz Baer in fifth, eighth and ninth, three more jumpers of the German Ski Association came in among the Top 10.
Tomaz Naglic in sixth and Andraz Pograjc and Rok Tarman in tenth and eleventh provided yet another strong team result for the Slovenians. Second-best Austrian in the final event of the weekend in Planica was Stefan Huber in seventh.
With his fifth place today, Andreas Wank now took the lead in the Continental Cup with 613 points. Slovenia's Nejc Dezman is second with 602 points, followed by Marius Lindvik of Norway with 556 points.
The next two competitions will be held on February 10th and 11th in Iron Mountain (USA).
