COC-M: Ulrich Wohlgenannt wins on day 2 in Engelberg
Aug 31, 2018·Ski JumpingUlrich Wohlgenannt of Austria took the win in the second competition of the Ski Jumping Continental Cup in Engelberg (SUI).
With two consistently strong jumps of 132.5 m and 135.5 m in difficult conditions, the 23-year-old scored 276.3 points and could celebrate his fourth win in the COC.
Tomasz Pilch of Poland, with 129.5 m only ninth after the first round, moved up to second overall with a 137.5 m jump in the final and a total of 269.1 points. This was already the third podium finish this winter for the only 17-year-old, who can now look forward to making his debut in the World Cup during the upcoming 4-Hills-Tournament.
Norway's Marius Lindvik is also presenting himself in a constantly strong shape so far this season and he confirmed this in Engelberg. After his fourth place on Wednesday, the 19-year-old finished third on Thursday with 137.5 m and 127.5 m and 268.9 points.
The fourth place went to Joachim Hauer of Norway and Austria's Florian Altenburger, who showed the longest jump of the day of 141.5 m in the final round and could move up from 15th to fourth with this performance.
After he celebrated his first win yesterday, Jonathan Learoyd of France came in on the good sixth place this time. Kilian Peier, third in the first competition in Engelberg, was again the best Swiss in seventh, but only close ahead of his young teammate Sandro Hauswirth, who was eighth and achieved the by far best result of his career.
With Yuken Iwasa in ninth also an athlete of Japan came in among the best ten, Austria's Philipp Aschenwald was tenth this afternoon.
Tomasz Pilch defended his lead in the overall ranking of the Continental Cup with the fifth and second place in Engelberg. With 397 points, he now leads ahead of Jonathan Learoyd (256 points) and Marius Lindvik (236 points).
The next two competitions of the Continental Cup will be held on January 6th and 7th in Titisee-Neustadt (GER).
