COC: Viktor Polasek surprises in Titisee-Neustadt

The second competition of the Ski Jumping Continental Cup in Titisee-Neustadt (GER) ended with a surprise winner. Viktor Polasek of the Czech Republic took his first win on Sunday on the Hochfirst-hill.
The 19-year-old from Nove Mesto na Morave laid the foundation for this success already with the first round with 140.5 m, in the final he was able to defend his lead with 129 m and 261.3 points earned him his first ever win in the COC. The best result of the young Czech so far was a fifth place in Kranj in July 2016. "This first place is a surprise for me, because my jumps haven't been on such a good level in the past months. I hope that I can constantly show such good jumps in the future", said the winner.
The best ski jumper of this weekend's first competition, Johann Andre Forfang, also had the longest jump of the day on Sunday with 141.5 m in the first round. With his second jump of 128 m and 255.9 points the Norwegian came in second this time. "Unfortunately my second jump was not so good today, I made a small technical mistake. But I'm still happy about this podium result."
Clemens Aigner of Austria could significantly improve his 21st place of Saturday's competition. With 137 m and 128 m and a total of 246.8 points the 23-year-old finished third. "I'm very satisfied with my jumps. The jury did a good job today, the conditions were not always easy."
Aigner's teammate Stefan Huber turned out to be a specialist for second rounds this weekend. On Saturday the Austrian moved up from 30th to 12th with a strong second jump, today he was 19th after the first round and came in fourth overall, with only 1.4 points more he would have even made it to the podium.
Stefan Huber tied for fourth with the best Slovene today, Miran Zupancic, closely followed by his teammate Bor Pavlovcic in sixth.
The two best Germans in this competition were Pius Paschke in seventh and Andreas Wank, who moved up from 14th to 8th in the final round. The Top 10 were completed by Italian Davide Bresadola (9th) and Klemens Muranka of Poland (10th).
Daniel Huber of Austria (today 20th) leads the overall ranking of the Continental Cup with now 356 points ahead of Cene Prevc of Slovenia (280 points) and Johann Andre Forfang (275 points).
The COC will continue on January 14th and 15th with two competitions on the Olympic hill in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (GER).
