The new Ski Flying World Champion Daniel Andre Tande will miss the World Cup in Zakopane (POL) on the upcoming weekend due to a gastrointestinal infection.

"He started to feel bad when we arrived at the airport in Oslo on our way home for the Ski Flying World Championships in Oberstdorf. These things can happen during the course of a long season. It's good that it happened to Daniel now and not later during the Olympic Games", head coach Alexander Stoeckl is quoted on nettavisen.no.

It might have been a possibility, that the 24-year-old could compete in Poland despite the sickness, but so close before the big highlight of the season the team didn't want to take any risks. "We could have tried that Daniel travels to Poland later. But so short before the Olympics it's better that he takes a break this weekend and rests so that he's fit again on Monday", Alexander Stoeckl added.

Norway will now be represented in Zakopane only by Andreas Stjernen, Johann Andre Forfang, Anders Fannemel, Robert Johansson, Halvor Egner Granerud and Marius Lindvik. No other athlete will be named to the team instead of Tande because those, who might be considered to replace him, will be competing in the Continental Cup in Sapporo in order to earn the additional quota spot for the next period of the World Cup.
