Daniela Iraschko-Stolz underwent knee surgery

Austria's Daniela Iraschko-Stolz had to undergo surgery on Tuesday, due to an injury that she had already sustained early March.

The 33-year-old suffered a cartilage fracture during training in Planica (SLO) shortly before the season final. After this injury was treated conservatively at first, an examination last week showed that a surgery will be necessary.

"I already injured myself during training in Planica, but we decided to wait to see whether it will heal without surgery. Now I still felt pain during some movements and the knee swelled afterwards. After the final check it became clear that I will definitely need surgery. Now I'm happy that everything went well. I will start with physical therapy already today in order to lose as less time as possible in the summer preparation", Daniela Iraschko-Stolz is quoted in a media release of the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV).

The 2011 World Champion will be able to start with light training again already next week, according to Dr. Christian Hoser, who performed the surgery, intense physical training shall be possible again in six weeks.
