Dawid Kubacki dominates also in Hinterzarten

Poland's Dawid Kubacki won the FIS Grand Prix in Hinterzarten (GER) on Saturday evening. Kubacki jumped on 105 m and 104.5 m and dominated the competition with a total of 283.3 points. The second place went to Germany's Stephan Leyhe with jumps of 102.5 m and 103.5 m (271.4 points), Kubacki's teammate Piotr Zyla (102.5 m and 103.5 m; 269.8 points) came in third.

More than 5000 fans at the hill in Hinterzarten saw an exciting competition under great conditions, in which 27-year-old Kubacki was unbeatable, just like he was in the Grand Prix opener two weeks ago in Wisla (POL). "I'm jumping well right now and the work we put in so far this summer pays off now. It's going really well, but I also have many details to work on so I can jump on such a high level also next winter. I'm especially happy about our strong team result today. We will have a good time also at the next stop of the Grand Prix in Courchevel", Kubacki said after the competition. For Kubacki this was the fourth win in the Grand Prix, the second this summer. With his 105 m in the first round, Dawid Kubacki also posted the longest jump of the competition.

6 Poles in the Top 10 - Leyhe among the world's best

Besides Piotr Zyla in third, four more Polish athletes finished in the Top 10 today, with Maciej Kot (4th), Stefan Hula (7th), Jakub Wolny (9th) and Kamil Stoch (10th). The team of head coach Stefan Horngacher sets the standards this summer. Stephan Leyhe from Willingen, who is training in Hinterzarten, showed a convincing performance as well. Leyhe won the qualification on Friday and confirmed this result with the second place today. "Dawid is jumping extremely well, he is almost unbeatable. Yesterday I was able to do it, unfortunately not today. But of course I'm very satisfied with my result, it's my first podium here in Hinterzarten. The door to the world's best is open for me and now I just have to close it behind me", said Leyhe. So far a fourth place in Hinterzarten was the best result in a Grand Prix for the 25-year-old.

Granerud surprises even himself

Norway's Halvor Egner Granerud presented himself in a strong shape and was surprised by his fifth place. "I really didn't expect that, actually I didn't have any expectations at all. Maybe I can also compete in Courchevel now", Granerud said after his success.

The Top 10 were completed by Roman Koudelka of the Czech Republic in sixth and local hero Andreas Wank in eight. Once again Gregor Schlierenzauer was the best of the Austrians. After his seventh place in Wisla he came in 11th today. Karl Geiger, who finished on the podium in Wisla, was 12th.

Dawid Kubacki now leads the overall ranking of the Grand Prix with the maximum of 200 points, followed by his teammate Maciej Kot (130 points) and Stephan Leyhe (109 points). The team of Poland leads the Nations Cup with 948 points, clearly ahead of Germany (566 points) and Norway (523 points).

The FIS Grand Prix continues on August 11th (ladies) and 12th (men) in Courchevel (FRA).
