Forfang wins the competition, Stoch the Willingen5

Norway's Johann Andre Forfang won the second World Cup competition in Willingen on Sunday. The 22-year-old from Tromsoe jumped on 147.5 m and 144.5 m on the Muehlenkopf-hill in Willingen and scored a total of 271.4 points. These were exactly two points more than second-placed Kamil Stoch of Poland (145.5 m and 140.5 m; 269.4 points). Clearly behind the two top athletes, the third place today went to Poland's Piotr Zyla (142 m and 138.5 m; 245.1 points). Kamil Stoch took the overall title of the first edition of the Willingen5 and the prize money of € 25 000,-.

For Forfang this was the second World Cup win of his career, he claimed his first win in 2016 in Titisee-Neustadt. Forfang is already the fourth Norwegian jumper to win in the World Cup this year and the tenth different jumper who could win this season. "The competition was quite good, both jumps were on a high level and I think I figured out the hill in the second round yesterday. Today it was a lot of fun to jump and it was a lot easier because I knew what to do in the inrun. I think that the Norwegian team is capable of fighting for a medal in every competition at the Olympics. Hopefully, we can fight for the medals in every event there", said Forfang.

Kamil Stoch took the overall victory of the Willingen5 with the second place in today's event. Stoch summed up the weekend after the competition: "It was really a good weekend for our entire team. I'm happy and satisfied with my result today and with the whole weekend. Willingen is a nice place, I like this hill and I like the atmosphere. Tomorrow afternoon we will be flying to Korea. I have no expectations, I hope the weather conditions will be fair for everyone and there'll be a nice atmosphere."

The third place went to Stoch's  teammate Piotr Zyla. "In Ski Jumping you can correct a lot in one day. After Zakopane I had a calm chat with the coach, who told me to listen carefully to his advice. Physically I’ve been very well prepared since the beginning of the season, so I had to look for improvements regarding my technique. Now I push myself differently from the starting gate, this has a positive effect on the whole jump. I’m more and more confident."

With Robert Johansson and Daniel Andre Tande in fourth and fifth, two more Norwegian athletes came in among the best today. Dawid Kubacki and Maciej Kot completed the strong team result of Poland in seventh and eighth.

Right now it seems as if at least the team competition in PyeongChang will become a duel between the teams of Norway and Poland. But things can look totally different in PyeongChang and the teams of Germany and Norway will definitely not give up without a fight.

Best German was Markus Eisenbichelr in sixth, Andreas Wellinger finished tenth, Stephan Leyhe 18th, Karl Geiger 22nd. Richard Freitag had an extremely bad day. After the first three competition rounds on Friday and Saturday he was second in the Willingen5, today he came in 28th and so he finished only 11th in the overall ranking. Freitag, who also lost the yellow bib to Kamil Stoch, now has to forget Willingen quickly and move on.

The German team, like most others, will travel to Seoul on Monday. The first training for the Olympic Winter Games 2018 in PyeongChang, about a three-hour drive east of Seoul, will be held already on Wednesday.

Nejc Dezman was the best Slovene today in Willingen in ninth, Yukiya Sato of Japan showed a strong performance and finished 11th.

Kamil Stoch (863 points) is now the overall World Cup leader again. He is followed by Richard Freitag (820 points) and Andreas Wellinger (736 points).
